In Tibet, Jang-Gun-Choes or the extensive winter debate is held every winter for a month at a place called Jang which lays on the South Western part of Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. This is a debate session in which mainly the students (monks) of Sera, Drepung and Gaden - the three great monastic universities - and students from other non-sectarian schools engage in debate on philosophical treatises through intensive investigation. Here in exile, this year Jang-Gunchoe Chenmo was held at Drepung Monastery. Monk students from almost all Major Gelug Monasteries and Institutes in India gathered here to participate in this extensive winter debate ceremony.
